Hiking Backpacks For a Multitude of Situations
When hiking, it is essential to have a good backpack. A hiking backpack should be sturdy and help the wearer bear heavy loads, all while having good storage capacity and being lightweight. Plus, it should provide the wearer with quick access to gear and the correct number of pockets for good organization.
Here at J & D Outdoors Backcountry, we personally use multiple of the hiking packs on this list. I received a pack extremely similar to Number 1 on this list and I could not imagine using a different hiking backpack. The rifle carry pouch is extremely helpful and coupled with the compression straps on the front do very well at securing the rifle safely onto the pack. The side zip-up pouches are plenty big to hold at least two 16-ounce bottles of water. And on top of all that, the waist belt includes two separate built-in pistol holders.

J & D Outdoors also use a hiking backpack very similar to this on a regular basis. This backpack is definitely recommended for anyone looking for a cheaper but still awesome daypack.
This 2-in-1 hiking backpack is an exceptional choice for you big game hunters out there. It has the main backpack area, or if you want to go lighter you can detach the top part and just have a fanny-pack to wear.
For you bow-hunters out there, this pack would be an attractive purchase. It is an excellent pack for carrying your bow comfortably and securely.
When it comes to hunting packs, you cannot go wrong with this one. It is extremely durable and comfortable, it has a channeled, air cooled back pad, and can carry your gun/bow. On top of all that it has a foldout rain cover.

This transformer pack from Eberlestock has an extraordinary main frame with 6 compression straps on the side for holding any gear needed. On top of the side compression straps, this backpack has compression straps on the front.
This backpack is for those of you looking for an sturdy, cheaper pack for those long day or two day hikes. It has a large front pocket, a cell phone/glasses pocket, 2 water bottle pockets, and compression straps. This pack will easily carry all your equipment needs.
This is a top of the line daypack. It has plenty of space for a long day hike, and is extremely durable even after long hard usage.
The PioneerHiker is also an excellent cheaper backpack option. It is made of water resistant nylon, and has compression straps for any gear you need. This pack has two front pockets, two waist pockets, and a separate area in the main compartment for organizing items.
The Eddie Bauer Unisex-Adult stowaway may well be one of the cheapest packs on this list, but do not look past this pack. It’s made of 100% polyester but has a StormRepel finish over it to repel moisture before it enters the fabric. It has two exterior zip pockets, four d-rings for attaching gear, and two side mesh pockets.
This osprey talon 11 is made of Nylon has 3 exterior pockets. It is a small to medium backpack size, so it’s perfect for those quick walks and hikes where not a lot of gear is needed.
This is an outstanding large pack for camping, hunting, or even mountaineering. It has a 50L capacity with adjustable straps for hanging a moisture-proof mat, one top pocket, and a main compartment with a separate space for organizing smaller item gear.
